Winter Newsletter 2010

Come recover from the hectic holiday season with a getaway to the Eagles Mere Inn. Our country inn is the kind of place described in the lyrics of a John Denver song, or in a refrain of a Robert Frost poem. It is simple perfection that speaks so eloquently to the soul that one starts to wonder, "What really matters in life? Is it really cell phones and e-mails - or is it something else completely..."

But, we don't need to tell you all this – you've been our guest before!

So, why not come again? We've got new things happening here in the Endless Mountains. Rates are reduced for the quiet season, we've added some great new packages and inn-room extras, and we're even offering a special discount only for repeat guests (see details below). Come, put up your feet, and stay awhile!

The Eagles Mere Inn Team

new owner/innkeeper
New things are happening at the inn! First and foremost, we have a new owner/innkeeper at the helm – Toby Diltz. Toby, who was our executive chef for three-and -a-half years, has now taken over as innkeeper. He runs the show with his two dedicated assistant innkeepers, Kelly and Diana. Toby also remains in charge of the kitchen, where he is mixing things up, as well. His new menus are not about the latest trends, but about real food prepared well. Kitchen creations reflect our Pennsylvania locale and use the best that is fresh, local, sustainable, and, whenever possible, organic.

pub update - games & local brews
Also new at the inn is a dedicated game room located right off our downstairs pub. Featuring pool, ping-pong, and darts, the game room is a great spot to challenge your sweetie to a rack 'em up while sipping a local brew. We’ve added two local Bullfrog Brewery microbrews to our tap. And, other Pennsylvania classics – Yuengling Lager and Straub – also are available in the bottle. Of course, the pub also features our award-wining wine list and a full range of cocktails.

brand new website
Oh, and we have one more new thing – a website with a fresh, exciting look; bigger and more photographs; a translation feature (for that friend of yours in France); interactive tools – such as an email postcard feature – and, the best part; an online reservation system. Check it out, surf around, and book online here.

toboggan slide opening
Eagles Mere Lake is frozen up to 4 inches, which means we are on track for an early February opening of the famous Eagles Mere Toboggan Slide. Haven't tried it? You don't know what you are missing! This exhilarating ride races down hill on blocks of ice, gathering speeds up to 45 mph, then deposits you onto Eagles Mere Lake, where you scoot across the frozen water for what seems like forever. Want a preview? Check out these YouTube videos. Want to read more about it? Peruse this Washington Post article from last year.

repeat guest special offer
We appreciate your business and want to offer you a special incentive to come back and experience the lovely quiet that is Eagles Mere Inn in the winter. Our rates are already down to their "quiet season" low, and we are offering you an extra incentive – 10% off a two-night stay any time through April 1, 2010. Call now and mention that you are a repeat guest, or, use the code "REPEAT" in the comment section of our online booking system. We look forward to welcoming you back to our special mountaintop hideaway.
